Head On Collision Leaves Driver In Critical Condition
[PIETERMARITZBURG – 25 JANUARY 2012 AT 21H30]
A driver of a bakkie believed to be in his late 30’s is in a critical condition, while a driver and passenger of another vehicle sustained minor injuries after a head on collision on Richey and Carey Road in Pelham this evening.
ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene and found one of the bakkies on the road, while the second one had crashed through a residential wall and had come to rest near a pool. The driver of that vehicle was mechanically entrapped and in a critical condition. Paramedics suspected a head injury on the man and needed to stabilise him as quickly as possible. Emergency personnel used rapid extrication techniques to get him out and were able to stabilise him further. the patient had a suspected head injury and Advanced Life Support intervention had to be performed before he was taken to Edendale Hospital in a critical condition for further medical care.
The two other occupants of the other vehicle believed to be father and son had sustained minor injuries and were been treated by other emergency personnel on the scene.
The circumstances around the collision are not clear but the local authorities were on the scene and would investigate the accident further.
